Audiences at the Mayflower will be doing the Time Warp (again) as the Rocky Horror Show comes to Southampton.
Among the leads in the cast is X-Factor alumnus-turned-theatre star Diana Vickers, who will be playing Janet Weiss.
When I was younger I wanted to be a pop star, but when I got my record contract I said to my agents I wanted to go into acting as wellDiana Vickers
After being one of the most talked-about contestants during her series of The X Factor, Diana has carved a successful stage career, garnering praise for her performance in the West End revival of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
She says: ‘When I was younger I wanted to be a pop star, but when I got my record contract I said to my agents I wanted to go into acting as well.’
So when she had the chance to play Janet, Diana says she lept at the chance.
‘I was so excited by the prospect of the whole thing – being able to sing, dance and act. The best moment is when [Dr.] Frank N. Furter comes on stage – it’s like a rock star has appeared.’
There’ll be none of Diana’s signature hand movements when she’s performing though - she was labelled ‘the claw’ by the media while she was on The X Factor.
‘I had no idea I was doing it! I was a nervous 16-year-old – I’d only sung at school and then suddenly I was performing to millions of people. It’s funny how the media latched on to it.’
