Chamber music will be replaced by chamber theatre at Stansted Park’s Music Room on Thursday with The Way To Keep Him.

Artifice, a Guildford-based company, will be performing the comedy, written in 1760 by Arthur Murphy, after shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Jane Austen Festival in Bath.

Disguise and deception, staples of 18th century comedy, are plentiful in The Way To Keep Him, but the play’s characters deal with very modern problems.

A wife is convinced her husband is playing away. Meanwhile, her husband’s best friend is being dumped in favour of a classier model.

Do the pair give into their situation, or do they fight? And what about the merry widow?

The Way to Keep Him starts at 7.30pm.
