CHIPPER CLUB: Team Chipper goes sailing on a dragon '“ not a real one!

Greetings Chipsters everywhere! I hope you all made the most of the sunny weather last weekend for it looks like those rain clouds are back.

Last week I felt inspired by mum and dad to do something really cool for charity. They were both taking part in the Portsmouth Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday and were co-captaining a team of human friends.

Have you ever seen what a dragon boat looks like? It’s a lot like a normal rowing boat, but it’s much bigger and it has a dragon head on it.

When I first saw the boat in our garage, I got a little bit scared of the dragon, but then I realised it wasn’t real. It actually looked a lot like the Loch Ness Monster that I saw with my cousin McChip in Scotland the other week!

Unfortunately there was no space left on mum and dad’s team for me to take part, but they said I could set up my own team and use the boat they had kept from last year’s festival.

I called up my best friend Brindley Milligan, Paul the Pug, Rayna the Robin, Chad the Rad Rottweiler, and I even got Pogo involved. We were so excited to take part in the races!

On Sunday, we took our dragon boat down to Lakeside North Harbour, where there were hundreds of people preparing dozens of boats.

As we approached the water I noticed Brindley was looking a bit scared. ‘What’s wrong, Brindley?’ I asked.

‘I just remembered how scared of water I am,’ Brindley said, trembling. ‘What if I fall in?’

‘You probably won’t fall in Brindley,’ I said. ‘But if you do, I promise we will rescue you straight away.’

Just like that, Brindley felt better. We had a great time out on the water, and although we didn’t win the race against mum and dad, we still had a great time taking part and raised lots of money for the RSPCA – my favourite charity!

Chip chip for now, your old friend Chipper.
