THIS WEEK IN 1989: No ban on circus animals in Hants

Recreation leaders refused to introduce a blanket ban on the staging of circuses with captive wild animals and reptiles on Hampshire County Council sites.

But opposition members and animal activists were to have another crack at the whip before a final decision was reached.

Letters from Hampshire residents were received by the council in support of the ban, originally proposed by Paulsgrove Labour member John Attrill.
