VETERAN Hampshire cricketer Dominic Cork lives to fight another day after seeing off his rival on this year’s Dancing On Ice competition.
The former England all-rounder defeated former Coronation Street actor Steven Arnold, who has bowed out and admitted he is ‘not a natural skater’.
It is the first proper round of the ITV1 show, and Cork was tipped as the bookies’ favourite to be sent home following the public vote.
The former England cricketer avoided the ignominy of being eliminated in the pre-series heats, and viewers were not too impressed by his performance.
But after coming back from a fall during rehearsal, he managed to score 11.5 with his partner Alexandra Schauman for his routine to Robbie Williams’ Feel in the skate-off against Arnold and avoid elimination.
That was despite the judges disliking his performance, declaring it ‘stiff and rigid’, and adding it contained no showmanship or presentation.
William Hill took a flurry of bets on Cork and his professional skating partner leaving the show this weekend, forcing their price down from 4/1 to 11/4.
