The films explore remote cultures, highlight intense expeditions through exotic landscapes and bring adrenaline-packed action sports into sharp focus.

The 2016 UK and Ireland leg of the Banff World Tour began in January and will finish in May, after coming to Portsmouth for the very first time on Tuesday, April 5.

Now in its seventh edition, the tour will also be the largest one to date – more than 50,000 adventure lovers are expected to gather together to celebrate the outdoors with 85 screenings and 55 tour locations across the UK and Ireland.

Globally, the world tour is enjoyed by more than 400,000 people across 40 different countries.

The festival tour showcases a diverse collection of the newest and very best films from the global mountain culture and sports community.

The two different film programmes, each approximately two and a half hours in length, feature 13 films that have been selected from over 350.

These films were entered into the 40th anniversary edition of the Banff Mountain Film Festival, held in the Canadian Rockies in November 2015.

The tour generates a great atmosphere and community feel at each of its locations.

It attracts people with a wide range of outdoor passions, who watch the films in search of new ideas and inspirations for their own adventurous pursuits.

The UK and Ireland Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is on at the Kings Theatre, Southsea, at 7.30pm on Tuesday.
