The two women were out kayaking in the water near the M275 and Mountbatten Centre when they became stuck in low tide and got stuck.
Two members of the Hill Head coastguard team had to wade through hundreds of metres of thick mud to reach the pair.
Other emergency services including fire crews from Cosham and Southsea, and paramedics from the ambulance service were also on alert.
The rescue operation took two hours to complete, and luckily the two women got back to dry land safely and uninjured.
