Almost half of UK firms are hit by cyber attacks

IT firm Taylor Made Computer Solutions is backing calls from the government for businesses to protect themselves against cyber crime.

It comes as government statistics found nearly half of all UK businesses suffered a cyber breach or attack in the past 12 months.

The Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2017 reveals nearly seven in 10 large businesses identified a breach or attack, with the average cost to large businesses of all breaches over the period being £20,000 and in some cases reaching millions. Nigel Taylor, managing director of Taylor Made in Fareham, said: ‘The figures make for uncomfortable reading but there are steps businesses can take. This research shows the most common breaches were via fraudulent emails – for example coaxing staff into revealing passwords or financial information, or opening dangerous attachments – followed by viruses and malware.

‘Having training to ensure all staff are alert to these scams can play a big part in keeping you safe. Having a secure back-up and contingency plan are important, should the worst happen.
