More than 150 people attended the event held at The Solent Hotel and Spa, which celebrates organisations that support EBP South in helping young people reach their future potential.

Portsmouth residents triumphed at the event, scooping prizes in categories that recognise schools, businesses, volunteers and young people.

A number of teenagers from the city were rewarded for going above and beyond, including Keiran O’Toole, a Portsmouth College student who won the Amazing Student (entrepreneurial) award.

Paige Curtis and Zak Blackford from The Cowplain Community School, Jordan Bayliss-Hamilton from King Richard School and Kennedy Bull from Miltoncross Community School also won Amazing Student (Mentoring) awards.

The young attendees stories highlighted the benefits of the EBP South programmes

Staff from BAE Systems Maritime Services celebrated winning two awards on the night, picking up the Amazing Business Promoting Careers in STEM and Amazing Business Supporting a Mentoring Programme awards.

John Thornhill, general manager at Portsmouth-based firm Wartsila, took home the Amazing Business Volunteer award.

Construction firm Mountjoy won the Amazing Large Business accolade for its ‘outstanding’ contribution to education business partnerships.

Cath Longhurst, EBP South CEO said: ‘Last year we recorded more than 78,000 business volunteer hours across schools benefiting more than 17,000 young people.

‘It has been heart-warming to hear some of the stories about how encounters  with business have really inspired and motivated young people.’
