Building work is beginning at the former premises of funeral directors E J Crossland in Gosport following its takeover by Fareham firm M Coghlan.
The outside of 129 Forton Road has already had a facelift and now a new chapel of rest is being built with suitable furnishings, along with a new accessibility ramp and double opening doors on to the pavement.
The original front door will remain as the main entrance and the whole ground floor will be disabled-friendly once inside. There will also be new toilet facilities and restful waiting areas.
Three students are studying hard for their Diploma in Funeral Service and should all be qualified by next Easter, which means M Coghlan will have four full-time qualified funeral directors, plus Mr Richard Coghlan overseeing it all, with his daughter Sophie part-time in the office at Fareham and Jen running the office at Gosport.
