Businesses back crematorium's first open day

The Oaks Crematorium, in Bartons Road, Havant, is opening its doors to the public for an open evening on May 11 as part of a national Dying Matters Awareness Week.

The evening aims to raise awareness of the importance of talking openly about death and bereavement.

Law firm Blake Morgan, which has acted for The Southern Co-operative for over 20 years and has an office in Portsmouth, is supporting the evening to help raise awareness of the need for everyone to make a will.

Legal director at Blake Morgan Ian Howlett said: ‘We are delighted to have the opportunity of supporting The Southern Co-operative in the delightful setting of The Oaks.

‘We hope to provide helpful ideas for guests on a number of legal matters that are of particular relevance to later life and estate and inheritance planning as well as discussing some practical issues that often arise in dealing with the serious illness or loss of a loved one.

‘We also hope to highlight why it’s so important to make your own plans so that you can have the final farewell you really want.’

Crematorium manager Ian Rudkin will provide a tour of the grounds and facilities on the evening.

Ian said: ‘I have been working in the funeral industry for over 25 years and now more than ever I believe in the importance of talking about death and bereavement.

‘If people consider their own funeral wishes it will not only be a great help to their families when the time comes but will mean you they can have the personal farewell they deserve.’
