Drivers will be unable to access Stanhope Road for nearly three weeks as Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks divert their cables away from a new private development.

In order to complete their job safely, SSEN engineers require the road to be closed to motor vehicles from Monday, February 26 until Sunday, March 11.

During that time, workers will be on-site every day between – including weekends – between 7.30am and 5.30pm.

The road will still be accessible to pedestrians, with SSEN teams set to put up exclusion zones around their excavations.

Speaking ahead of the works, SSEN’s project manager, Stuart Ainslie, said: ‘We will do everything we can to ensure that this short project is competed as safely and as quickly as possible.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any potential disruption or inconvenience that our essential work may cause.’

Motorists will be diverted via a route agreed with the Highways Agency.
