A SUBWAY store in Fareham has announced its permanent closure.

The Subway store in Broadlaw Walk closed at the start of lockdown due to restrictions placed on fast food stores that prevented trading to stop the spread of coronavirus.

However, the company has now said that it will not reopen, with its staff redeployed within the newsagent which housed the baguette business.

‘Its last day of trading was March 23 where it temporarily closed in support of social distancing and in line with government guidance.

‘McColl’s, the operators of the store, have since taken the decision not to reopen it and offered staff new positions within McColl’s.

‘Guests can still enjoy their favourite subs, salads and wraps from the Subway store located nearby in Fareham at 4, Cremar Mall, Market Parade.’

Broadlaw Walk was regenerated in 2011. A £15m regeneration project jointly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency, First Wessex and Fareham Borough Council saw 83 new flats, five houses, six retail units and a community centre built.

Despite this, it still still listed as one of the most socially deprived areas in Fareham.
