When is the last day I can return Christmas presents? Portsmouth retailers extend return policies

UNWANTED, unneeded or embarrassing Christmas gifts often flood into retail store rooms after the festive period.

This year, people have a bit longer to return these gifts due to the coronavirus pandemic impacting non-essential retailers.

The News’ consumer champion, Richard Thomson, says a number of shops have agreed to extend shoppers’ statutory rights and their seasonal returns policies.

Marks and Spencer has confirmed that anything bought online or in store between October 4 and December 27 can be returned until January 31, subject to providing a receipt as proof of purchase.

Similar extended returns policies are also being offered by Argos and John Lewis.

Argos purchases made from October 18 can be returned before January 24 or within 30 days of stores reopening.

Argos confirms items can be returned either to stores within a Sainsbury’s supermarket while buying essentials, or to any high street outlet.

John Lewis purchases between October 8 and December 24 may be returned until January 28, but if the store is closed returns can still be made up to 35 days from reopening.
