Coronavirus: Gosport pub to provide NHS staff with dinner and supplies

THERE is no question that NHS staff are working harder than anyone else in the country right now.

But because of the lengthy shifts and ungodly hours, many of them are struggling to get supplies from supermarkets due to the panic buying in shops – and are subsequently left to go without.

Now, a Gosport pub is going the extra mile to help out NHS heroes, by giving them a free meal and getting supplies on their behalf.

The pub, run by Tina and Darren Tester, has closed under government guidelines, but they are determined to do their bit during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historic Groundlings Theatre in Portsmouth saved from closure by council cash

Their daughter, Amy Thornhill, said it was a ‘crucial’ initiative to implement.

She said: ‘Everyone who works in the NHS is so busy at the moment; they’re simply getting rushed off their feet.

‘Because of the hours they work, staff members are going into shops and seeing nothing but empty shelves.

‘We want to give them anything they need, whether that's a meal or just supplies they need to keep themselves going.

‘Everyone has their role to play and this is our’s.’

NHS staff members can either call the Bridgemary pub in advance, or send a message via Facebook.

Amy added: ‘We’ll be doing this for as long as we’re allowed – obviously we have to follow government guidelines about being closed to the public, but we can still do things for those who need our support.
