Harriet Charter, who usually runs beauty salon Harriet Charter Beauty at her home in Londesborough Road, has started a stylish dog accessory business around her day job, after she saw first hand how drab some pet accessories could be.

Her new venture, called Laharfi, has been named after her three dogs; Larlei, Harper and Fig and has seen her create and design stylish accessories.

She has now set up a fundraising campaign to get her idea off the ground - and she is calling for support.

The 27-year-old said: ‘It began when I realised that I owned every practical thing you need when owning a dog, but I found that it was all so boring.

‘So I’ve decided to bring these sensible purchases to life.

‘Think fun, bright colours and patterns, interesting and unique designs that not only serve the purpose for which they are intended, but look great too.’

She has just received her second batch of prototypes, bringing stylish patterns to harnesses, leads and collars, and is now looking at branching out in to other products such as natural treat bags.

Now she is calling on the public to support her campaign to merge the worlds of fashion and pet owning.

She has set up a Kickstarter campaign, with the hope of reaching £20,000 to get her business up and running.

There are a range of ways to invest in the idea, from £5 as a gesture of support, to dog seatbelts at £25, a matching collar and lead set at £65, up to a bespoke collar, lead and harness set at £2,000.

She said: ‘Now I am reaching out to dog lovers to invest. With their kind help I think we could really make my dream happen.

‘I would like to get a big UK outreach to begin with but I am hoping it will be worldwide. It has got no limits and I can see it going far.'
