Equality in the workplace in focus in report

EQUALITY in business is in the spotlight as a new report from the Federation of Small Businesses explores the challenges faced by women-led businesses.

The report Women in Enterprise: The Untapped Potential makes recommendations for improving support, developing mentoring networks, and increasing the diversity of business ambassadors.

On the back of the report, FSB will launch a dedicated Women in Enterprise Taskforce to support female entrepreneurs and business owners.

FSB spoke to over 1,900 female business owners in the UK. It found key challenges included balancing work and family life (40 per cent), achieving credibility for the business (37 per cent) and a lack of confidence (22 per cent). All of these are limiting women’s ability to start, run and grow their businesses. The report also found that 34 per cent of female business owners had experienced gender discrimination in the workplace.

Helen Walbey, from FSB, said: ‘More needs to be done to empower women.’
