Portsmouth’s city centre market, which has been going for 800 years, has about 40 stalls, and runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 4pm.

Traders, some of who have had stalls in the family for generations, sell everything from household products to pet food, from fashion to flowers, along with fresh fruit and veg.

Tory planning, regeneration and economic development boss, Cllr Luke Stubbs said: ‘Our bustling market is a great tradition and something to celebrate. The stalls are so varied and you can’t beat the atmosphere.

‘It’s a lot more interesting than shopping on the internet or in a big out-of-town retail centre. Plus, by using the market you’re supporting the local economy.’
