Forty Coopervision lens factory jobs axed in Fareham

MORE than 40 redundancies have been made after production at a contact lens factory was moved.

Coopervision took over Sauflon, in Delta Park, Fareham, in 2014, in a deal worth £700m.

The company released a statement saying there was some duplication of roles which have now been streamlined and production has been moved to its Hamble factory and another in Budapest, Hungary.

Around 130 staff from Fareham have been redeployed in Hamble and a further 43 staff took redundancy, 39 voluntarily.

The statement went on: ‘We are deploying over 130 employees from our Fareham facility to our Hamble site and anticipate a smooth transition during the next few months with no impact on the service we provide for our customers.’
