A PUB in Gosport has closed today to undertake risk assessments after police visited due a possible breach of Covid-19 restrictions.

Reckless punters were caught on camera breaking social distancing rules during a suspected drunken sing-along inside The Jolly Roger pub in Priory Road on Saturday.

Police were called to the venue and are investigating the incident as a potential breach of Covid-19 restrictions.

Now staff have posted on social media that the pub is closed today, without confirming when it will reopen.

The comment said: ‘At the Jolly Roger we have always taken the Covid-secure restrictions and government guidance very seriously.

‘We’re going to take the opportunity to review our risk assessment here at the pub to ensure we’re doing everything we can to keep our staff and guests safe. Because of this, the pub will be closed tomorrow.

‘We’ll let you know when we feel the pub can reopen and we can’t wait to welcome you back safely.

An officer from Gosport Borough Council’s environmental health and licensing team has also visited the pub, according to a council spokesman.

He said: ‘We've launched an investigation, which is ongoing, into possible breaches of coronavirus rules by the premises.

‘We're working closely with police.’

With Hampshire classed as a ‘medium risk’ area, people are allowed to mix with other households indoors provided they adhere to the rule of six.

Pubs are also required to only provide table service and everyone must wear a face mask while walking around the pub, unless exempt.
