Havant pub marks second birthday in style

The Wheelwright’s Arms in Emsworth Road, Havant, commemorated the occasion with a fun-filled pay-what-you-want evening.

It saw customers come along and pay what they thought the food was worth, with all proceeds going to charity.

Refurbished in 2014, the Wheelwright’s Arms is owned by the Upham Pub Company, which prides itself on restoring old venues back to their original, traditional charm.

Doors opened for the event at 7pm, with fundraising for local radio station Wave 105’s Cash for Kids charity.

The pub managed to reach its target for the night, raising just over £2,000.

The Cash for Kids scheme supports children under the age of 18 who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged, with the end goal of helping them to realise and achieve their full potential, giving them the start in life that they deserve.

Figures show that there are around 64,000 children living in poverty in the area.

The celebration included food, drinks and live music from local singer songwriter Lucas Raye, whose appearance was part of his summer tour across Hampshire and Dorset.

Sean Clapson, general manager at The Wheelwright’s Arms, said: ‘We are so excited to have celebrated our second anniversary.

‘Last year’s birthday was such a huge success and we were looking forward to raising even more funds this year through our pay-what-you-want event.

‘Our pub is all about giving back to the community in which we live, work, eat and drink in, and we are delighted to be able to work with 
Wave 105 to support Cash for Kids.

‘We would also like to thank everyone who’s been with been us over our two years at The Wheelwright’s Arms; our lovely customers and our incredible team – we couldn’t do it without you.’
