Jay Z and Beyonce could afford to buy 4000 homes in Portsmouth, according to new web tool

Buying a home is a dream most of us spend years working toward but for several on the rich list, the price of a home is small change.

A brand new interactive web tool shows users how much of their home town or city 26 celebrities and business magnates could afford to own based on their net worth and the average cost of housing.

The Wealthier Than Where? microsite, designed by www.web-blinds.com, gives users the option to pick a wealthy individual from a drop down list of 26, including Beyoncé & Jay Z, Donald Trump, J K Rowling and Mark Zuckerberg and then choose one of the 100 most populated UK towns and cities.

The site will then calculate the percentage of homes in the chosen area that person could own. For example, Beyoncé and Jay Z can afford 4.93% of the homes in Portsmouth which is equivalent to 4,213 homes. Whereas if Bill Gates decided to jump on the property ladder in Portsmouth he could buy every single home 3.85 times over.

Similarly, the deceased oil magnate and wealthiest American of all time John D Rockefeller (1839-1937) could have used his £275,500,165,920 fortune to buy every home in Portsmouth 15.24 times over.

Zoe Ashton, spokesperson for web-blinds.com, said: ‘Just stepping on the property ladder is a dream for many of us nowadays ... but Donald Trump could afford to do so 12,875 times in Portsmouth!’
