Mountjoy sign new Â£60m contract with Portsmouth City Council
A NEW Â£60m deal has been signed for a firm to provide maintenance services for council homes in Portsmouth.
Mountjoy has already been doing the work for the past 10 years.
The familiar dark blue vans will be seen around the city for at least another six years after the contract was signed by Portsmouth City Council.
Mountjoy, which has more than 100 tradesmen, carries out building repairs and maintenance, and refurbish vacant properties in Landport, Buckland, Somerstown and Portsea areas.
Steve Groves is the asset manager for Portsmouth City Council.
He said: ‘We are pleased to continue the good working relationship that we have had with Mountjoy over the past 10 years and hope to continue to work together to improve the repairs and maintenance service received by our housing residents and leaseholders.’
The firm will continue to operate the services from its main office in Farlington.
As part of the new contract Mountjoy will continue its support to the local community. In recent years volunteers from the company helped rejuvenate the Buckland communal playgrounds.
Simon Ingram, managing director of Mountjoy, said it will be employing 10 apprentices and introducing a new fleet of vans which will include 12 environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The switch to ultra-low carbon vans with hybrid diesel and electric engines and will reduce Mountjoy’s carbon emissions by 14 tons a year.
Mr Ingram added: ‘I am delighted that Mountjoy has been selected to continue delivering repairs and maintenance service for Portsmouth City Council residents for a further six years.
‘We are committed to continuing the high quality service that housing tenants can trust us to deliver.’
Mountjoy was founded in 1992 by Chris Howells.
It has more than 300 employees and covers London and the south east.
It has an annual turnover of £30m.
