Museum '˜will help city's economy'

Penny Mordaunt said the attraction was a key attraction for not just the city but the UK.

‘This is a great day, another milestone in this fantastic museum’s development,’ she said.

‘It will bring huge numbers to our city and help our economic regeneration.’

As well as being a major draw to the Historic Dockyard, the reopening of the Mary Rose Museum also gives the city a stunning venue for events, weddings and celebrations.

For the first time, businesses and guests will be able to hire the Admiral’s Gallery which offers spectacular views of the hull of Henry VIII’s flagship.

The space allows around 100 guests to view the museum’s collection before being seated for a dinner or event.

The Admiral’s Gallery can also welcome about 110 guests for a theatre-style presentation on a state-of-the art big screen, or 150 guests for a standing event.

Deputy council leader Luke Stubbs added: ‘We get nine million people visiting the city every year – it’s one of the most-visited places outside London in the south of 
England.

‘Success builds success.

‘It’s a really exciting time for Portsmouth.’
