@GeorgeTheRocker said: ‘Noel Gallagher is playing Victorious fest in my hometown Portsmouth. That’s a better shout than Red Hot Chili Peppers at Reading.’

@Tom_Knight said: ‘Well it’s been decided. Selling the Reading tickets and going to Victorious instead.’

Festival director Andy Marsh said: ‘The reaction has been groundbreaking. You’re always nervous about how it will go, because this is something I care about so much.

‘But the response has been amazing.’

He added: ‘People are saying it’s like Noel Gallagher is going to be playing in their front garden, because it’s Pompey’s festival.

‘It has that community feel. So it’s really gone down well.’

That’s the message from the organisers behind the summer spectacle, who are hoping to attract 120,000 people over the two days.

Last year, a total of 49,436 visitors poured through the gates on the bank holiday Saturday and another 51,894 saw the star-studded music show the day after - 101,330 in total.

Visitors spent in excess of £6m – and it’s anticipated the spending total will hit £10m as the festival gets bigger and continues to grow in popularity.

Victorious Festival director Andy Marsh said: ‘The event brought in about £6m last year, in terms of visitor spend, which is fantastic. But that hasn’t just come from the people visiting the city, that’s also the people who live and work. This year the visitor spend could reach £10m.

‘It’s also not just about this weekend, but it’s the fact every single person last year said they would come back, and that’s fantastic for Portsmouth.

‘Victorious is also a really great tourist attraction, it is getting people to come and see that Portsmouth and Southsea are really nice places to come and visit.’

Tickets can be bought from Meat and Barrel, in Palmerston Road, Southsea, or Little Johnny Russells, in Albert Road, Southsea.
