The company has operated in the Portsmouth area for more than 25 years, providing specialist secondary packaging to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

The firm, in Concorde Way, Segensworth, has recently invested in new finishing equipment and it is also running an apprenticeship programme, with its first intake of 10 apprentices starting next month, and a further 10 in October.

The three-year programme is made up of vocationally recognised qualifications, as well as technical, functional and soft skill modules, providing participants with a level three apprenticeship.

Gavin Leathem, group HR director, said: ‘We see this programme as an opportunity for anyone who wants to choose a different path, away from full-time further education at college or university, to continue their studies while learning key skills in a real job from day one.

‘Essentra is committed to providing its apprentices with a professional and open working environment, to realise their full potential and enjoy a rewarding and varied career.’

Jon Wilks, site manager, added: ‘We are excited that our site has been chosen to take part in Essentra’s inaugural national apprenticeship programme.

‘We understand the importance of attracting and inspiring talent – particularly into our skilled operational roles – and believe this new initiative will help to reinforce our commitment in this respect.

‘Essentra is proud of our long-standing presence in Portsmouth and the surrounding area, and we look forward to building on this through our participation in the programme.’

Applications close on Friday, May 5.
