Pub closes its doors to undergo major revamp

The Sovereigns in Kingston Crescent, Fratton, closed yesterday so that an extensive refurbishment could take place.

It will reopen as a Hungry Horse pub restaurant on Thursday, September 8.

Adam Cheesman, general manager at The Sovereigns, said: ‘We’re incredibly excited to be undergoing such a huge transformation.

‘The Sovereigns has always been a popular destination for local families, so we’re pleased to be able to offer an even better surrounding for them to get together and enjoy some great food.

‘We will also be introducing special extras for kids such as TVs in dining booths and value deals, as well as more live entertainment to make it the go-to destination for the whole family.’

The pub brand will bring a fresh look to the venue, with a bright, modern colour scheme, booth seating and improved children’s entertainment.

A new menu will also be introduced, with a focus on good value food, lots of choice and large portions.

Dishes will include fresh chargrilled chicken cooked in a glaze, served with a choice of sides; freshly stone-baked Italian pizzas, hand stretched in pub daily; and an ice cream bar with a selection of 10 different flavours, toppings and sauces.

Marc McGuigan, business unit director for Hungry Horse, said: ‘Our focus is on ensuring all of our pubs are successful hubs within their local communities.

‘The Sovereigns will continue to offer unbeatable value and we’re confident the investment in a fresh new setting and the introduction of a new menu will bring a welcome change.’

The Hungry Horse chain is run by Greene King, which employs around 44,000 people across its main trading businesses; Pub Company, Pub Partners and Brewing & Brands.

It operates more than 3,000 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales and Scotland.

These include other Hungry Horse pub restaurants; the Farmhouse, in Burrfields Road, Copnor, the Seagull, in Cornaway Lane, Portchester, and the Heron, in Petersfield Road, Havant.
