Many of us are looking ahead to our 2024 holiday plans, but the journey to one of the London airports can often put people off booking their breaks. But with a large number of choices on offer from the Hampshire airport, which is just a short car or train ride away, the answer could be a flight from Southampton instead.
5. Bergerac
Take a trip to France's wonderful Bergerac with British Airways on Saturdays to the place well renowned for its wine. You can also wander the cobbled streets past medieval buildings and through squares in the Old Town, such as Place de la Mirpe with its half-timbered houses. Photo: Contributed

8. Edinburgh
You can fly daily to historic Edinburgh from Southampton Airport with Loganair. Edinburgh Castle is a must, of course, even just for the views across the city from the ramparts. For a different viewpoint, head up Calton Hill. From here you can see landmarks including Arthur's Seat with the Crags behind Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament, Leith and the Firth of Forth, Princes Street in its New Town grid, and the Royal Mile climbing up towards the castle.
