Southern passengers face fresh strike misery

SOUTHERN Railway said it expects to run three quarters of its normal service during a fresh 24-hour strike by some of its staff next week.

Members of the Rail, Maritime & Transport union will walk out on February 22 in a long-running dispute over the role of conductors.

Southern said that during the last RMT strike in January, it ran around three out of four trains and expects to operate at least that number again.

Southern said there that some services between Brighton and Seaford/Eastbourne/Hastings/Ashford and between Brighton and Bognor Regis/Littlehampton/Portsmouth Harbour/Southampton Central will not operate, while others will have fewer carriages than normal.

Angie Doll, Southern’s passenger services director, said: ‘We will be running as many trains as possible on Wednesday, but our advice to passengers is to expect some disruption and check on our website before you travel.’

No Southern West London Line services will run between Clapham Junction and Milton Keynes Central via Kensington Olympia/Watford Junction and there will be no Southern service between Leatherhead and Guildford. Most services between Brighton and Hove will not operate.
