Southsea cafe takes part in national campaign to promote breastfeeding
CAFES across the area have shown their support for breastfeeding as part of a national campaign.
The day, called The Big Breastfeeding Cafe, saw coffee shops, restaurants and cafes hold events today to promote understanding of breastfeeding and to connect parents.
The initiative, now its its fourth year, was led by breastfeeding brand Medela.
This year, Coffee#1 took part with events being held in each of its 91 outlets, including Southsea’s Palmerston Road.
Manager Vikki Barber, from Gosport, said: ‘As a community we need to get together and allow people to feel comfortable when they are feeding their babies.
‘It has become a big thing, but it is important that mums feel comfortable in doing the natural thing of feeding their children.’
Supervisor Callie Atkinson, 23, from Buckland, said: ‘It is good to raise awareness as some mothers don’t feel comfortable enough in some places but it is a natural thing. My sister breastfed and she had trouble but it is great when you go somewhere and feel supported and at ease.’
