Students urged to enter regional chef challenge

A BUSINESS is urging colleges and students throughout Portsmouth and across Hampshire to enter the Student Chef Challenge.

With just four weeks until the deadline for entries, food and drink firm Harvest Fine Foods is encouraging students to enter the Country Range Student Chef Challenge 2017/18.

Now in its 24th year, the event is an opportunity for students to improve their cooking skills, knowledge and technique while getting real life experience through competition.

The challenge is for teams of three students to develop a three-course, three-cover menu to demonstrate their interpretation of the theme of the year, ‘Around the World in Three Spices’.

Each team has a maximum budget of £15 of ingredients.

Harvest’s development chef Phil Clark said: ‘We’re delighted to be supporting this competition which will hopefully help unearth and develop the next generation of kitchen stars.

‘The challenge is an amazing experience for the students and provides fantastic publicity for the colleges so it’s incredibly beneficial all round.’
