Support for striking doctors in long dispute

UNIONS have supported junior doctors' industrial action in the run-up to a rally.

Union members show their support for striking junior doctors

Portsmouth Trades Union Council held a public meeting on Tuesday evening at Fratton’s community centre in support of industrial action.

Jon Woods, chairman of the city’s TUC, said: ‘Trade unionists from across the city plan to continue to show solidarity on the picket lines on the next British Medical Association strike days and to hold a rally and march in central Portsmouth on Wednesday, April 27.’

The BMA and junior doctors are locked in a dispute with the government over a new junior doctor contract.

Talks between the BMA and the government have not progressed and the Department of Health is due to impose new pay and conditions on doctors.

The BMA will hold a 48-hour strike from April 26 to 27.
