Water specialist gets gold for seventh year

BTU, headquartered at Southmoor Lane in Havant, employs more than 200 people and works in partnership with Southern Water across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent.

It was launched in 2009 by infrastructure specialists Barhale and Trant Engineering to deliver improvements for the utility, which serves 4.5m people.

The commendation came in the diamond anniversary of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards, which gives accolades to businesses and organisations that have shown commitment to accident and ill-health prevention.

Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Glen Carlin, from BTU, said: ‘This is our seventh consecutive gold in seven years and RoSPA’s commendation underlines our genuinely deep commitment to safety in everything we do.’

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards, said: ‘To win an award at such a highly-regarded event is a great achievement. It recognises their commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record and raises the bar for other organisations to aspire to. We offer them our congratulations.’

Awards were given to 24 industry sectors including engineering, construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, manufacturing and education.
