Council opens places on traineeships to boost work prospects for young people of all abilities

RESULTS day for GCSE students '“ August 25 '“ is fast approaching, and Hampshire County Council has taken steps to calm nerves by opening places on traineeships to young people of all abilities.

The First Traineeship offers work placements and skill development support to people aged 16 to 19 who have a grade E or below in maths and English GCSE.

Placements and employability support have been offered to people aged 16 to 24 with grade D or below as part the Traineeship Plus scheme.

The council’s executive member for education, Councillor Peter Edgar, pictured, says that they are committed in helping young people ‘to find work, and continue their learning journey in a way that is practical and enjoyable for them’.

Cllr Edgar said: ‘No matter what a young person’s GCSE grades are, a traineeship could provide the inspiration, motivation and skills they need to achieve their ambitions.’

Harvey Lynam, from Farnborough, completed a traineeship last year, and is now doing an apprenticeship in HGV mechanics.

He said: ‘If you’re thinking of doing a traineeship – do it! It really helps a lot.’
