Eastney swimming pool, Portsmouth Watersports Centre and Farlington and Bransbury Park pavilions to benefit from £580,000 council investment if given the green light

Portsmouth City Council have put plans in place to spend £580,000 on sports facilities including £390,000 on pavilions at Farlington and Bransbury Park.

Farlington will benefit from £240,000 for pavilion improvement works - which will be timed to minimise disruption to sports users, and Bransbury Park will gain £150,000 towards replacing the existing building within the site.

As part of the council's ongoing commitment to the facility, £90,000 has been set aside for works at the Portsmouth Watersports Centre and £100,000 has also been earmarked to review options to maintain a swimming pool in Eastney.

The current well used pool is well over 100 years old and the cash will enable feasibility studies and planning options to ensure that the council is able to continue to provide a swimming pool at Eastney.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Deputy Leader, Portsmouth City Council said: "We're fortunate to have some great spaces for sports across Portsmouth, including the playing fields at Farlington and Bransbury Park - which host sporting events and fixtures all year round.

‘We're committed to investing in our sporting facilities so that our residents and young people have year-round access to a wide range of recreational sports.’

The proposals are part of the council's capital budget spending plans which can only be spent on fixed projects like buildings and facilities, rather than the day-to-day running of council services.

The proposed capital programme for 2020-21 will go before the council's cabinet for endorsement on February 4 and should that be successful will be presented to full council for final sign off on February 11.
