Google Digital Garage Bus makes a stop to help students at Portsmouth College

Portsmouth College recently hosted the Google Digital Garage Bus as part of Google’s commitment to provide free digital skills training to people across the UK and in collaboration with the college’s ‘Curious and Creative’ learning project using iPad technology.

With success as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019–2022, the college encourages digital innovation to enhance students’ future prospects.

Interactive workshops covering topics such as social media, digital marketing, business and advertising give students the opportunity to build strategies and develop important skills that could be applied to the workplace.

The Google initiative first began in 2017 and a space recently opened in Commercial Road, Portsmouth that offers training, 1:1 mentoring and sessions for confidence building, career development and business growth.

Google staff aboard the bus commented on how engaged the students were positively discussing and sharing skills with great knowledge and interest in the digital world.

Chris Wood, Curriculum Team Leader at Portsmouth College and Apple Distinguished Educator, said: ‘It’s amazing to have the The Google Digital Garage Bus at Portsmouth College. Our students are getting unparalleled access to industry experts to prepare them for the digital workplace they will be

entering.’

The Google team have since returned to the college to deliver further sessions and provide students with opportunities to share their practises, which is critical in a world of digital literacy.
