Havant school chosen to help insects

Pupils at Hook-with-Warsash C of E Academy were given a real treat when they were visited by furry and feathery friends from Longdown Mobile Farm recently.

The children were given the opportunity to hold a baby chick and stroke a range of different farmyard animals including ducks, piglets, geese and goats.

The star of the farm was a miniature baby donkey who even came in to the classroom to meet the children.

The farmer who brought the animals talked to the children about his daily routines looking after the animals and the different things each animal liked to eat.

All the children were allowed to meet the animals who spent the day on the infant playground getting a lot of attention from the children.

‘It was amazing to see the animals at school, I have never held a baby chick before, it was really tickly,’ said Cara, from Year 4.

Headteacher Sara Willoughby said: ‘We would like to thank the company Sheila Tarr IFS for funding this wonderful opportunity for the children.

‘Some children had never had the chance to visit a farm before and the visit gave them a unique experience handling animals and learning about their needs within their own school grounds.’
