New charity chosen by Portsmouth High School

PEOPLE suffering from a debilitating disease are set for a boost after students set a fundraising target of Â£10,000 to help a charity assisting families and research.

The head girl team at Portsmouth High School has chosen to select the Motor Neurone Disease Association as their Sixth Form charity for next year.

According to the charity, 2,000 people are diagnosed each year in the UK.

Portsmouth and East Hants group leader of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Andrew Lane, told the pupils about the charity and the research work that it undertakes.

He said: ‘We are so grateful that the head girls have chosen MND for their charity this year.

‘I promise that every penny you raise will help patients and families who have been affected by this devastating disease and go towards our research work.’

Head girl Nancy Fenton said: ‘This is a charity very close to the heart of Portsmouth High School.

‘If we can raise £10,000, these funds can not only go towards much needed research into the genetic causes of the disease but also to help local families too.’
