Portsmouth school raises money and awareness for genetic disease

Portsmouth High School's head girl team has launched its support for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND).

The girls officially annouced MND as their sixth form charity for the next academic year.

Head girl Nancy Fenton, 16, said: ‘This is a charity very close to the heart of Portsmouth High School.

‘If we can raise £10,000, these funds can not only go towards much-needed research into the genetic causes of the disease, but also to help local families too.’

Throughout the year, the team will organise fundraising activites and raise awareness of their chosen charity.

Andrew Lane, leader of a local group of volunteers for MND, spoke to the whole school in an assembly about the charity and its research.

He added: ‘We are so grateful that the head girls have chosen MND for their charity this year. Every penny will help patients and families who have been affected by this devastating disease and go towards our research.’
