School children make live TV shows at university

SCHOOLCHILDREN were given the chance to go behind the scenes and make live television programmes.

Pupils were invited to the University of Portsmouth as part of its UP for Juniors scheme.

The television workshops allowed nearly 40 schoolchildren to assume the roles of directors, producers, floor managers, presenters and vision mixers.

Children from Ark Dickens, Arundel Court, Gatcombe Park, Woodcroft and Orchard Lea junior schools attended across three days.

Nikki Chester, education liaison and outreach officer, said: ‘The children had real hands-on experiences using industry-ready equipment; nothing was off-limits.

‘They learnt their roles quickly and were very professional in the making of the show.

‘Everyone involved, children and staff, had a brilliant time.’

Children, parents and guests will be able to watch the television shows next month at a screening event in Eldon Building.
