University lecturers set to walk out in strike

STAFF at the University of Portsmouth are due to go on strike for two days.

University and College Union members will go on strike tomorrow.

Members at the University of Southampton, the University of Winchester and Southampton Solent University will also walk out in a dispute over pay. Picket lines in Portsmouth will be at Park building and Richmond building on both days.

From Wednesday members of the union will work to contract meaning they will refuse overtime, additional work and undertaking voluntary work.

Further action is due to be taken in June and July if no agreement is reached.

A boycott on marking students’ work could be held in the summer.

The union wants a higher pay offer than 1.1 per cent.

Regional official Moray McAulay said in a statement: ‘A 1.1 per cent pay offer is particularly insulting when we know vice-chancellors have just had over five per cent.’
