Elle Field, who runs Elle’s Salon in Bedhampton, was inspired to take on a fitness challenge to raise cash for charity Mind, after taking a health studies course in burnouts and depression.

This Saturday she will be running 10km, cycling 10 miles and swimming in the sea for 10 minutes and has so far raised £1,400.

‘I’m going to take this time to make a difference in a way that’s still sticking to government guidelines and, although we won’t be able to connect in person, hopefully this will connect us all at the heart.

‘Mind is such an amazing charity that helps people, so I wanted to do my bit to help out.’

Elle is also getting sponsored support from local businesses with Southsea-based Positive Juice selling products on the day and donating profits to Mind while Rio-Vitalise, which has a stand on Southsea pier, will donate £1 to the mental health charity from all of its Grateful Hearts’ smoothies sold throughout February.

Portsmouth’s Gymbuddy has also provided active wear for the challenge.

Elle, originally set her a target of £500 before the event but with five days to go she has nearly tripled her goal.

She added: ‘I’m overwhelmed to have already raised so much, especially during tough times it’s amazing to see how much people have dug deep and been selfless enough to give what they have to support others. I’m extremely grateful.

‘Though what we can all agree has been the toughest year yet, I’d love to make a contribution to supporting our community. Unfortunately, no one knows what’s going on in someone else’s mind, so let’s share support where possible.’
