On Monday Boris Johnson warned people to avoid ‘non-essential’ social contact and to avoid pubs, clubs and theatres if possible.
People should also self-isolate if someone in their household has symptoms of coronavirus.

Hide AdSporting fixtures have already been suspended, including Pompey’s games in League One.
Here we have included a list of all the major events, concerts and sporting fixtures which have been cancelled or postponed because of coronavirus in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Comic Con
The popular event was due to take place at the Guildhall in May.

Hide AdHowever this has now been pushed back and Comic Con will now take place on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16.
Customers who have already bought tickets for the event will be able to use them for the rearranged dates.
Theatres and music venues
Portsmouth Guildhall remains open but has told customers it is likely ‘that many shows for the foreseeable future will be postponed’.
In a statement the venue said it was in discussions with promoters and hirers about the next steps.

New Theatre Royal announced on Tuesday it is closing its venue and cancelling all scheduled performances and events for ‘at least the next 14 days’.
A statement said: ‘This closure will be reviewed on an ongoing basis as and when updated Government advice is announced. Please check our website over the next few days for further information regarding future performances.’

The Kings Theatre has not confirmed whether it is staying open yet, but Romesh Ranganathanannounced on Tuesday he would be cancelling the rest of his UK tour, which includes a date at the theatre.
Pubs and clubs
In his statement on Monday the Prime Minister said people should avoid ‘non-essential’ contact, which has led to many pubs and nightclubs worrying for their businesses over the next few months.
The Eastney Tavern, in Cromwell Road, has told punters that it will be closed with ‘immediate effect’.

Hide AdA post on the pub’s Facebook read: ‘To all our fantastic customers, we are very sorry to announced that following the latest government and chief medical officer announcement (5pm, March 16), we are closed with immediate effect.
‘We hope that you all stay safe during this very difficult time and hope to see you all again as soon as we can.’
Sporting fixtures
Most elite and grassroots sporting fixtures have been suspended for at least the next few weeks.
The EFL has suspended all games – including Pompey’s League One fixtures – until at least the start of April.

Despite the global pandemic there are still a handful of major events which are still going ahead at the time of writing. Your reporting team at The News are in touch with organisers to get the latest updates, which we will bring you as soon as they are available.
Pompey are still due to play their Leasing.com Trophy final against Salford City at Wembley on Sunday April 5. However, with more than 50,000 Blues fans expected to attend it is hard to imagine the game will go ahead as planned.
To mark VE Day at the start of May events have been planned in Portsmouth and across the surrounding area – we will await more information from councils and organisers on these.

Hide AdPortsmouth is due to hold an event in the Emirates America’s Cup World Series between June 4 and 7. It will be the second event of the three-regatta ACWS circuit that sees teams racing on their first generation AC75 high-performance foiling monohulls. Organisers have been contacted for more information.
