Hospital group buys new machine to replace old monitor

The Friends of St Mary’s raised the cash for equipment which monitors patients while they are having an MRI scan.

The Tesla Duo MR8100, bought by the organisation for £5,701, replaced the current monitor dating from 1997.

Superintendent radiographer Alistair Day praised the new machine, which is wireless and continuously 
measures the oxygen saturation, pulse and blood pressure of patients during the MRI scan.

He said: ‘We get all sorts of patients, from adults who are seriously ill to children who are sedated.

‘A sensor is attached to a patient’s finger undergoing diagnostic imaging. The results are constantly transmitted by radio to the monitor outside the room, away from the magnetic field.

‘This completely portable wireless system is so much better than the old one.

‘It provides reassurance and confidence to both patients and staff.’
