POLITICIANS have warned people lockdown could be reapplied if there is a second wave of coronavirus cases as the country prepares for the easing of restrictions.

On Monday restrictions are due to be eased even further with people allowed to meet friends and family in parks and gardens in socially distanced groups of six.

For those who have been shielding, a slight reprieve will come in the form of being able to go outside with members of their household, while continuing to follow social distancing guidelines.

Those in this category who live alone can meet outside with one other person from another household.

MPs have said people should enjoy the moment but have stressed it is important to follow the rules to avoid a second outbreak.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt said: ‘I know how excited people will be to see other people and to get out and about more.

‘We should enjoy it, but we also need to stay focused on the health advice. We are not back to normal yet and we do not want to have to go back into lockdown.

‘Keep social distancing and keep washing those hands.’

Havant MP Alan Mak said: ‘New rules accompany the gradual easing of lockdown and they should be complied with to keep everyone safe and avoid a second wave.

‘Everyone needs to play their part to keep our community safe.’
