Patient raises £3,000 for QA Hospital unit

THOUSANDS of pounds has been donated to the renal unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital by a patient they have helped for years.

Cheryl Harmes raised the £3,000 for the Cosham departments by holding a casino night last month.

She handed over the cheque to staff earlier this week.

Cheryl, from Four Marks, said: ‘I was diagnosed with polycystic kidneys at the age of 12 and have been under the care of the renal unit since that time.

‘In September 2015, I was diagnosed with end stage renal failure and I decided that peritoneal dialysis would be the choice of treatment for me as I have a young family.

‘I was able to do dialysis at home while the family slept. This treatment was fantastic, but obviously I was desperate for a kidney transplant.

‘My dad kindly offered to be tested and was accepted to be able to give me the gift of life.’

She added: ‘I have been overwhelmed by the support of all the staff. They are an absolutely amazing team of professionals and I decided I wanted to give something back.’
