The annual service for Naomi House and Jacksplace, held at the Holy Trinity Church in Fareham, gave people the chance to reflect as the festive season starts.

Two choirs, including a children’s group, sang a number of songs while vicar of the church Sally Davenport gave a talk and delivered a reading.

Half of the service is carried out with the church lights out and just candles shining.

Organiser Mary Ramsey said it allows for a very poignant service.

‘Having just the candles lit means emotions can come out,’ she said.

‘It gives people the chance to reflect and remember loved ones who have passed away.

‘The church was packed and the service went very well.’

Mary has been organising the event, which raises money for Naomi House and Jacksplace, for the last eight years.

Every year has a different theme which is reflected in the readings.

Mary added: ‘The service is very popular and people seem to enjoy it.’

Another service for Naomi House is being held at St George’s Church, in Waterlooville, on December 7 at 7pm.
