Physiotherapist left stunned after picking up health award

Tanya Best, based at the Amulree Day Hospital at St Mary’s Hospital in Milton, scooped the Allied Health Professional/Worker of the Year at The News’ Best of Health Awards on Friday.

Ms Best picked up the award, which was sponsored by the University of Portsmouth’s health sciences and social work department, at a ceremony at Portsmouth Guildhall.

She told The News: ‘I was in complete shock. I just didn’t expect to hear my name called out at all.

‘This is an award that really should be for the whole team as they all do such good work.

‘We all work hard together so I’d like to dedicate this award to them.

‘It’s great to pick up this award as it will add another string to my bow. I really cannot thank those that nominated me enough. It is a lovely gesture to by handpicked by those that you look after and those who you work with.’

Tanya was nominated by a number of patients for her kindness and efficiency.

They highlighted her good advice and her understanding when it came to their appointments.

One nomination read: ‘Tanya made me feel like I was always making good progress and was always encouraging.’

Adam Bingham, a physiotherapist at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham was the runner-up in the category.

He was nominated by a patient who said that if it was not for him, her son could have been a paraplegic and thanked him for his guidance and skills.
