Praise for healthcare at criticised Victorian jail

MEDICS in charge of looking after prisoners have said they will get better.

It comes after a report found that in Winchester prison some clinical rooms were damaged or had inappropriate fixtures and fittings, and some did not meet NHS cleaning standards.

But the report, by HMI Prisons, found health services were good overall with an appropriate range of primary care.

There have been five self-inflicted deaths at the prison, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust said.

Jo Haworth, of CNWL, said: ‘We are committed to addressing this.’
