Tips on how to keep well and warm this winter

WITH temperatures set to plummet, a council is reminding people of simple steps to stay well and keep warm.

Tips include seeking advice on minor illnesses like coughs and aches before they get too serious, heating the bedroom before going to bed, having regular warm meals during the day and getting the flu vaccination.

Hampshire County Council will also be running its Hitting the Cold Spots scheme for the seventh year running.

It offers advice and support to people who are having trouble staying warm during the winter, including home visits, help to access funding for boiler repairs and replacements, temporary heating, and small grants for winter fuel emergencies.

Councillor Patricia Stallard, executive member for public health at the council, said: ‘Keeping warm is important for everyone.

‘It is essential for older people, the very young, and those with long-term medical conditions, who all need to take extra care to stay healthy.’
